AZIEL LAUGHS AS I wipe a speck of blood off his cheek, the man not caring if my actions have the seven generals sitting around the large stone table looking at him funny. He usually does a better job of cleaning himself before these meetings, but it seems he forgot today.
Luckily for him, Iâm here to help.
âIâm excited to have you back,â I say.
Aziel and Silas left two days ago, the pair leading separate missions along the Wrath border. Azielâs was successful, and he arrived a few hours ago with blood-splattered skin and a victorious smile.
Azielâs ugliest, tattooed general scoffs. âWeâre in the middle of a meeting.â
The Wrath generals have been more argumentative than usual, and theyâve been pushing Azielâs boundaries after hearing the details of the Lust ceremony. I suspect thatâs the reason Aziel chose to lead a unit into battle instead of remaining at home base and sending one of his generals, but I wonât insult him by asking.
He wants the respect of his people, and I wonât mock him for it.
I shouldâve known the council members would never keep quiet about the ceremony, and Iâm willing to bet theyâve been excitedly telling everybody who will listen how Aziel bent for me. Iâm pretty proud of it, but unfortunately, it negatively affects how Azielâs generals view him.
I turn toward the door as Silas comes storming in. Heâs also covered in blood, maybe even more than Aziel, and I can barely contain my excitement as he makes his way into the room.
Aziel hasnât sent me out to fight as heâs done with Silas, and Iâve been stuck at our main camp near the southern border of Wrath. I prefer to spend my time at home base, and I know Iâm only here as a figurehead, but I still take offense.
Fightingâs never been my thing, but Iâm more than a morale booster.
âMammonâs cleared out her two strongholds near Black River,â Silas says, gesturing for the general sitting on Azielâs right to move.
The Wrath scrambles to his feet. I thought it was a bit cocky of him to claim the spot to Azielâs right in the first place, and Iâm happy Silas isnât letting it fly. He locks eyes with the general as he sits, the silent message loud.
Aziel doesnât even notice the interaction, the man too busy poring over the maps on the table.
âWhat about the ogres?â Aziel asks, grabbing his marker to strikethrough the two strongholds Silas was sent to take care of. âWe heard reports that they were camping out on the peak.â
I go to the water jug along the far wall and fill a glass for Silas. The fate doesnât look injured, which is good, but Iâm sure he hasnât been eating or hydrating as well as he should be. We donât need as much food to survive as the weaker breeds do, but itâs still good for us.
Silas was gone for two days, and he needs to replenish.
I promised Charlie Iâd take care of our males, and Iâll be damned if I slack on my duties.
